Rock Stars, From a Moms Perspective

What moms have to say about their rockstar children

Rock n’ Roll superstar Dave Grohl is having a book written about him, by none other than his very own mother. The title of this rock n’ roll manifesto, From Cradle to Stage: Stories from Mothers who Rocked and Raised Rock Stars, will be available in April.

Virginia Hanlon Grohl is not only writing about her son, but a variety of other musicians’ mothers. She's had interviews with the mother of the Haim sisters, Donna Haim, Amy Winehouse’s mother, Janis, and even Dr. Dre’s mother, Verna Griffin.

Dave Grohl is one of the most universally beloved performers in Rock n’ Roll. His star-studded career began as the drummer for Nirvana. Grohl and Kurt Cobain quickly became close friends. Unfortunately Kurt Cobain committed suicide early in his life.

This devastated Grohl, but it also gave him the opportunity to start something new. In a recent interview with Sam Jones’ show Off Camera he stated, “after Kurt died, I really felt that way, like, ‘Ok I’m gonna try this. What do I have to lose? I’m gonna start this band and then I’m gonna be the singer.’” That is when he created the Foo Fighters - and then went on to win 11 Grammies between his 27 nominations.

Naturally, Dave Grohl’s mother was worried about the decisions he would have to make during his career, especially during the Nirvana days. She would ask the other mothers if they, “worried about their children’s livelihood and well being in an industry fraught with drugs and other dangers.” This among others are great questions that can only be answered if you buy the book.
