'IT' Screenwriter's 'Are You Afraid of the Dark' Movie Gets Release Date

Are you afraid of the dark? You will be...

Last month, we told you iconic 90s television show Are You Afraid of the Dark was heading to the big screen, but now it has a release date. Yesterday, December 6th, Paramount announced the movie will be released on October 11th, 2019. Happy Halloween, y'all!

The original show, which aired on Nickelodeon from 1992 to 1996 and again from 1999 to 2000, featured a group of teenagers who called themselves The Midnight Society. The group traded ghost stories around a campfire and starred legend icon stars such as Ryan Gosling, Neve Campbell, Elisha Cuthbert, Ross Hull, Daniel DeSanto, and Once Upon a Time's JoAnna Garcia Swisher.

Gary Dauberman, who scared our socks off with this fall's Stephen King adaptation IT, is screenwriting and producing the film and promises the movie will be more intense than the show; "The show is about the shared experience of telling stories — especially scary ones. We're going to celebrate that with this movie and honor the darker, scarier tone of the show, which was really groundbreaking for Nickelodeon at the time. I hope The Midnight Society approves."

The film still does not have a director attached, but it looks promising for sure. Also, still no word on if any former cast members will make an appearance in the reboot, but here's hoping!
